Professional Experience
Over the past 17 years, I have supported infants, toddlers, young children and their families across a wide range of early childhood settings. I began my career as an Early Childhood Educator in ECDA-licensed preschools, including childcare centres, kindergartens and infant care programmes.
I especially enjoyed caring for the younger infant-toddler age groups and pursued additional qualifications to specialise in the care and development of babies and toddlers below the age of three. I strongly believe that so much learning and development takes place during those ages, yet it is often misunderstood or underestimated.
I was passionate about finding creative ways to document and showcase the children’s learning processes during those first three years and often took on projects that gave me the opportunity to do so. In 2020, I was nominated and selected by ECDA for the Professional Development Programme (E), designed to enhance the skills and competencies of the top 10–20% of high-performing Early Childhood Educators in Singapore.
I later took on HQ-level responsibilities within my organisation, contributing to teacher training, curriculum development and the integration of policy into classroom practice. During this time, I piloted several organisation-wide initiatives including educator induction programmes, curriculum projects and staff wellbeing initiatives. My work has also been featured across several sector-wide platforms.
In 2022, I was one of thirty-two Early Childhood Professionals across Singapore who were honoured at the Istana by former President Mdm Halimah Yacob for my outstanding contributions to the Early Childhood Sector during the COVID-19 Pandemic. That same year, I received an ECDA Commendation Award for a group project piloting a child-led documentation approach for preschools in Singapore. In 2023, I developed and piloted the first integrated curriculum outline for Singapore’s first purpose-built intergenerational preschool facility.
(first person from right) In 2022, I was invited to the Istana to meet former President Mdm Halimah Yacob as part of the #ServingSG Appreciation Event, where Early Childhood Professionals were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Preschool Sector during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2024, I stepped away from the preschool sector and began caring for babies and young children in their homes, supporting families who needed trusted help during their working hours or daily routines. This experience added a new perspective on family life and deepened my appreciation for the trust parents place in those who care for their children. I became certain that this was how I wanted to spend the next phase of my career.
I founded Soar On Wings (SOW), a collective of experienced Early Childhood Professionals providing in-home support to families. I also became certified through IPSP as an Infant and Child Sleep Consultant in Singapore. As an Infant and Child Sleep Consultant, I am passionate about providing high-quality, ethical, developmentally informed and evidence-based guidance to support families navigating infant and child sleep. I see my role as a partner to parents, working together to build the knowledge and confidence they need to support their child’s sleep independently.
In my free time, I volunteer with rescue dogs, helping to rehome them and organising awareness initiatives. I co-founded @giveahomesg, a social media platform that shares stories of rescue dogs who have been waiting a long time for a forever home. I also share updates about dogs at the shelter and dogs in need of rescue on my personal Instagram page @hermiethecaterpillar. Feel free to follow both pages if you would like to learn more about the cause.
